Based in Brooklyn, Snarky Puppy is an instrumental fusion collective composed of over 25 rotating musicians. Members have played with famous names such as Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and D’Angelo. Their music crosses over from “white” to “black” American music with accents and influences from around the world. Members hail from Japan, the US, Argentina, Canada, Great Britain, and Puerto Rico. The group was created in 2004 by composer and bassist Michael League, who first brought together a group of friends at the University of North Texas. The group has since won three Grammy Awards: Best R&B Performance for their interpretation of Brenda Russell’s Something in 2014 and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for the albums Sylva and Culcha Vulcha in 2016 and 2017.
